Advantages of biomass in coal power stations
The use of the term co-firing and interest in the phenomenon started in the 1980s, and then it revolved around using waste like paper, plastic and such or biomass in coal power stations. The stations were designed for the combustion of coal but the idea of a combined combustion came up because of the existence of opportunity fuels, and that you could increase benefit margins.
The interest in co-firing has grown extensively the last decades due to the concern about global warming and greenhouse gas emissions. These concerns have led to new policies when it comes to energy and environment with the goal to reduce emissions.
